Father’s Day is a special day on which we pay tribute to the men who helped give us life and raise us to be the amazing individuals we are today, and the men who have helped us raise our very own children. This year let your dad or husband know how much you appreciate him and all that he does for you by giving him something a little more creative and that appeals to his personal interests. Even better, do these things with him so that you can enjoy quality time together.: |
- A Spa Day: If he isn’t a spa-goer already, there is no better time to introduce your dad to the benefits of a day at the spa. Whether he enjoys massage, a little body scrub or a man’s facial, pampering and rejuvenation will help him relax and let the stress melt away. There are some great packages that you can purchase with multiple services. And today, many spas offer treatments that are specific to men and their needs. If you’d rather let him enjoy the spa on his own, be sure to take him out for a pre-spa light lunch to get in some quality time together.
- A Day of Gardening: Nothing says spring and summer more than a day in the garden. Bring some cheer to dad’s yard with a day of planting. Choose plants that flower to add some color to the garden. Bring the flowers to your dad and offer to plant them for him, or even better, with him.
- Healthy Barbecue by You: Let mom handle breakfast and step up to be the official Dad’s Day Barbecue Handler (or if you have siblings, get them all involved too!). A nice barbecue that is healthy can include grilled vegetables and barbecued shrimp or swordfish. End the meal with a wonderful fruit salad with a yogurt-honey and mint dressing (see recipe attached).
- Hike and a Picnic: If your dad is especially active, create a day of hiking, talking and enjoying the outdoors together. Make sure to bring your camera so that you can get some quality pictures of the two of you and of your beautiful day. Pack a picnic lunch so you can take a break and enjoy prime vistas. Either create your own picnic lunch or stop at a local deli to pick up some snacks, drinks and sandwiches.
- Photo and Picture Frame: Find a picture of you and your dad or the whole family at a special occasion and have it framed. If the picture is of high quality, get a print that is a 5x7 or even an 8x10. For an added touch, consider having the frame engraved with a special sentiment.
- A year’s subscription to Ancestry.com: Share memories and stories, and learn more about your family’s roots and heritage by starting a family tree with your dad. Ancestry.com is a fantastic way to get started. They have tons of resources that make tracking your genealogy easy and fun. They also have the ability to access foreign records for a more complete family lineage.
- A Day of Fishing: Instead of buying fish for dinner, take dad on a fishing trip for some extra fun. Many lakeside and coastal towns offer charters that get you out fishing for half or a full day. If you can’t afford a private charter, consider a party boat. You’ll meet new people and have a lot of fun.
Whatever your dad enjoys, he probably will enjoy it even more if it is with you. We hope you enjoy your Father’s Day! |
